NOTE: Before you begin setting up and installing the tool please have your 'Resource Key' and 'Remote Tool Password' in hand. You will need them for setting up the NJVID Media and Browser tools

Download the tool

The support email will have the link to the NJVID Moodle Plugin. Download this file to your computer and proceed to the next step.


Installing the tool


There are two options to install the tool. Please note that the first option must be used to upgrade your current version of the NJVID plugin.


Option 1. Install the files manually

  1. Download the Media tool from the link provided to you in the email. 
  2. After unzipping the file, copy the "basicltim" folder to the "mod" folder of your Moodle 2.x or greater installation, 
  3. If you are upgrading from a previous version, extract the files over the current version
  4. Login as Moodle administrator and click on Notifications in the Site Administration area on the main Moodle page.
  5. You should get a series of messages indicating that the installation of the module went smoothly


Option 2: Install the tool using the "Add-on Installer" 

  1. In Moodle Site administration > Plugins > Install add-ons, 
  2. Select Plugin type as "Activity Module (mod)
  3. Save the file from the link provided to you and upload the file.
  4. Check any Acknowledgement messages to confirm that you are responsible for the installation.
  5. Click on "Install add-on from the ZIP file" button
  6. Once Moodle validates in the "Add-on package validation" screen, click on "Install add-on!" button to complete installation


Creating the Media Player tool


Once you're logged in as the Moodle administrator, click on 'Site administration' on the button left hand side pane. and then select Plugins and click on 'Activity Modules' from the drop down list. 


  


The 'NJVID Media' (or "Merit Cloud Media") tool that was installed can be seen under the 'Site administration' drop-down list. If you do not see this tool, then please try installing the tool again.

Click on the 'NJVID Media' (or "Merit Cloud Media") tool and follow the next step




Click on the "Create a new NJVID Media activity" (or "Create a new Merit Cloud Media activity") link


           

You should see the NJVID Media Tool Setup (or "Merit Cloud Media Tool Setup") page similar to the image below. Customize the tool as follows

  • For the Remote Tool Name, enter "NJVID Media Player" or "Merit Cloud Media Player" 
  • The Remote Tool URL should be set to the link provided in the email.
  • Enter the resource key and password provided in the email.
  • Please select 'Always' for the send name and surname to the external tool option
  • Please select 'Always' for the send email address to the external tool option.


 


  • Under "NJVID Extension Services" or "Merit Cloud Media Extension Services" section, select "Always" for "Allow Tool to store 1K of settings in Moodle". Some versions of Moodle will have "Allow Tool to store 8K of settings in Moodle". This should set to "Always".



           



  • Select the "Resource" option from the "Moodle Module Type" drop down, and click on Save changes.





The Media Player resource tool is now ready for use.



Creating the Media Browser tool


In the "NJVID Media" or "Merit Cloud Media" page. click on the 'Create a new NJVID Media activity' link again.


You should see the NJVID Media Tool Setup (or "Merit Cloud Media Tool Setup") page similar to the image below. Customize the tool as follows

  • For the Remote Tool Name, enter "NJVID Media Browser" or "Merit Cloud Media Browser" 
  • The Remote Tool URL should be set to the link provided in the email.
  • Enter the resource key and password provided in the email.
  • Please select 'Always' for the send name and surname to the external tool option
  • Please select 'Always' for the send email address to the external tool option.
  • Under "NJVID Extension Services" or "Merit Cloud Media Extension Services" section, select "Always" for "Allow Tool to store 8K of settings in Moodle"
  • Select the "Resource" option from the "Moodle Module Type" drop down, and click on Save changes.

 

The Media Browser resource tool is now ready for use.
